I am accredited as Profesor Contratado Doctor (Associate Prof) and Professor of Private University by the Spanish National Agency of Evaluations and Accreditation (ANECA, PCD: 2022-8747/PUP: 2022-8748, November 11, 2022) and currently work at the Universidad Internacional de La Rioja (UNIR). I was trained in international and comparative education (DPhil and M.Sc., University of Oxford, UK; M.A., Columbia University, USA). I belong to a research group PROCOMM: Prospectivas de la Comunicación Multimedia at UNIR and collaborate with the Contemporary Childhood Research Group of the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) and with the Institute Ikeda at the Alcalá University.
I have, broadly, generated knowledge of how and what children and young people learn in contemporary society through both formal and informal learning. I have researched widely with deeply interdisciplinary approaches, at times engaging with theories of political sciences and economies or communication studies (see below). I have also contributed methodological knowledge regarding methods that involve children and young people in the research process, including social media, photos, drawings, and task-based methods, and produced 5 high-impact methodological papers.
I have participated in national and international projects, such as "Challenging stigmatization” (2021-2024, PID2020-112880RB-I00, 49.731 €)," an EC Horizon 2020 funded COST Action "The Digital Literacy and Multimodal Practices of Young Children" (2015-2019, IS1410, €7,000,000); “Kids' Digital Lives in COVID-19 Times” (2020-2021) and "Young Children (0-8) and Digital Technology" (2015 - 2018), the last two coordinated by the Joint Research Center of the European Commission (EC-JRC) in Ispra, Italy and I took leadership as the national coordinator of Spain. As a result, I have produced over 40 academic and educational publications, including:
- 12 articles in journals indexed in SJR and/or JCR (9 articles in Q1 and Q2; I am the sole author of 4 articles) - 8 book chapters in established publishers, e.g. Springer, Routledge, Sage, Tirant lo Blanch, Síntesis.
- 1 edited book (published by Bloomsbury (Continuum).
- Total citations: 318, Average number of citations per year since 2020: 41.5, h-index: 10 (Source Google Scholar)
I have presented at more than 30 international/national conferences, including AERA (American Educational Research Association), the International Council for Educational Media (ICEM), the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR), Comparative and International Education Society (CIES).

Contributions to society:
I have collaborated with different entities, including: Save the Children (SP), EC-JRC, Ispra, Publisher Civilización Global (CG), Educational Research Network for West and Central Africa (ERNWACA) andUNESCO. Among them, I contributed to CG 6 educational articles targeted at children aged 6 to 16, and the consultancy work for Save the Children, in which I was the co-coordinator, laid the basis for the organization’s report and policy campaign to promote access to early childhood education “Donde Todo Empieza”. Our collaboration with EC-JRC over three projects (see Section C3.5 and C4.4) not only produced great repercussions in European media, including ABC, but our main conclusions and recommendations have also been presented to Members of the European Parliament through workshops organized by the Policy Department for the European Parliament's Committee on Culture and Education (CULT).
I also promote young people’s critical engagement with social media, particularly TikTok through projects such as FANSTIKTOK(30,921€) and IA-TikTok (37.610€). We produced educational materials “TikTok in the Classroom” and complementary audiovisual materials. An online training session targeted at (future) teachers achieved more than 1,6k views and received great attention from the media, including Europa Press, Gente Digital, Siglo XXI.
Contributions to the training and mentoring of young researchers and evaluation
I train future researchers regarding qualitative research methodology. I have designed materials for doctoral students and deliver seminar series annually (1ECTs). I also teach a Master course annually (6ECTs). I have trained 25 early career researchers across Europe in the Summer School of the COST Action mentioned above (IS1410). I have directed 31 Final Master's and Degree Projects.
I have evaluated projects, such as proposals submitted to the European Commission's Marie Skodowska-Curie Individual Postdoctoral Fellowships (MSCA-PF) calls in 2020, 2021, and 2022, and the research projects submitted for the Small Grant Awards by Educational Research Network for West and Central Africa (ERNWACA) in 2008. I am also an Editorial board member for the Journal of Early Childhood Literacy (Q1) since 2017 and a reviewer for 5 high-impact journals: Cambridge Journal of Education (Q1), Linguistics and Education (Q1), Children and Society (Q2), Media and Communication (Q2), and Revista Complutense de Educación (Q2) and the Bloomsbury Publisher (SPI, Q1, 39th position out of 300 international publishers, with ICEE 55).
